Guardamar del Segura is situated on the Costa Blanca, some 35 Km to the south of Alicante and about 14 Km to the north of Torrevieja. Information suggests that the "live in" population of Guardamar is in the region of 13,000 but explodes to around 45,000 (estimated) during June, July and August, when the majority of Spanish who own the apartment's in the town, descend for the summer to breathe life into Guardamar.

Visitors are attracted to Guardamar by its nature, its cultural activities and its leisure facilities. Three natural areas surround the town: the sand dunes, with their associated pine forests, in which can be found the ruins of the Califal Rabita which lead to long sandy beaches; the Parque Natural de La Laguna de La Mata, a bird reserve offering walking paths and hides from which the birds can be observed; the mouth of the River Segura, in which is located the marina- information and photos on the Places of Interest page) and around which is found the market-gardening area of Guardamar del Segura.

Fiestas

Fiestas and cultural activities fill the year at Guardamar.From the entrance of Menjabollos the giant at Christmas, and the Carnival celebrations in February, to the grand processions of Moros y Cristianos (Moors and Christians) in high summer, along with numerous others throughout the year, there always seems to be a fiesta in Guardamar.

Dünen und Pinienwald

Die Waldfläche besteht aus 800 Hektar. Ursprünglich war ein Dünen -und Treibsandkomplex, die fixiert wurde durch  die Einpflanzung von Pinien, Palmen, breitästigen Zypressen und Eukalypten.

Der Forstwirt ( Ingenieur ) Francisco  Mira y Botella fing mit diesem anspruchvollen  Projekt  im 1900  an  und endete 1930.
Dieses Dünengebiet, muss man mit besonderer Sorgfalt pflegen, vorallem die Dünen am Meer, die darf man nicht betreten.

Feste

In Winter - dem milden, sonnigen Winter - feiert Guardamar den Carnaval.  Mit dem Frühling kommt auch „La Semana Santa“ (Karwoche) mit ihren festlichen Prozessionen.

Am Ostermontag  und dem Montag danach (Sant Vicent Ferrer: Festivität der Comunidad Valenciana) treffen sich alle Einwohner Guardamars und Umgebung im Naturpark Alfonso XIII um beim grossen Picknick und allerart Spielen zu feiern.

Dann im Sommer, am 21 Juni, wird „La Plantá de la Foguera“ gefeiert. Es handelt sich um riesige Skulpturen aus Karton und Holz mit satirischer, politischer Bedeutung. Dabei werden viele wichtige Ereignisse der National und der Weltpolitik parodiert und zum Schluss in Brand gesteckt. In der magischen Nacht des 21.Juni wird am Strand bei Lagerfeuer weiter gefeiert und damit dem Anfang des Sommers gehuldigt.

Die grossen Feierlichkeiten kommen noch. Am 25.Juli   zeigt sich Guardamar in beeindruckender Pracht : der Fest „Moros y Cristianos“ ( Mauren und Christen ) wird tagelang mit prachtvollen Umzügen und spektakuläres Feuerwerk gefeiert.

Im Herbst, am 7. Oktober, huldigt die Stadt ihrer Madonna „Mare de Déu del Rosario“, Beschützerin des Ortes, mit feierlicher Zelebration.
